Finance Subcommittee Minutes

Committee Members Present:

  • Grayson Meek – Director, Financial Services (Co-Chair)

Committee Members Absent:

  • James Kubacak – Director, Financial Aid (Co-Chair)
  • Sandi Jones – Associate Director, Financial Aid
  • Shelley Cotten – Coordinator, Operations & Scholarships, MCC Foundation 

Agenda Topics:

  • Discuss idea of offering scholarships to students that complete the developmental courses.
  • Update on the Restart program.

Action Items and Timelines:

  • Meeting started at 1:30PM.
  • Discussed the impact of offering a scholarship to students for the following semester upon the completion of developmental courses.
    • The reason for the incentive is to increase completion rates of the developmental classes and encourage students to enroll in the following semester.
    • Based on information compiled by the institutional research department, the amount of scholarships offered each year would most likely exceed $500,000.
    • Because of the large impact on the budget the scholarship would have, it was unanimously agreed that we shouldn’t have this scholarship as an incentive.
  • Rene presented information about the first semester of the Restart Program
    • It has been a success so far.
    • It has generated more revenue than the amount of debt that will be forgiven.
  • Next meeting was decided for July 20th, 2021 at 1:30PM
